Bernard and Norma Jones
Norma: 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
They took out my right kidney and part of my colon. The
doctors said I was in remission; I say I was healed.
5 years later, I have a problem with my blood. Dr. Riblet
was my first doctor and Dr. Shabazz is treating me now.
Dr. Shabazz is very caring, but he’ll tell it to you
straight. He gives you something extra. He listens as long
as you talk. He’s compassionate and he makes you feel
like you always have hope. He never slows down, but he told
me, “this is my job and I love it.”
The chemotherapy staff has been just wonderful. God is
good and the medical team is good too. It’s going
to be all right.
Bernard: It was a rewarding experience for me. When I first
found out she had cancer, I was devastated. It was the end
of the world for me. But the nurses and doctors made me
feel at ease and assured me that this was not the end of
the world. I was very relaxed after talking to the medical
staff.
I thought I was in the hospital because I was with her
all the time. The chaplains came in two or three times and
prayed with us. It was uplifting. I knew it was going to
be all right.
Cancer is not the end of the world – there is hope.
It can be cured. My wife is living proof of that.
