Jerry Linn, a 70-year-old retiree and Marine, is a true
believer in the benefits of mall walking. He has lost nearly
40 pounds and lowered his cholesterol and blood pressure
since he first saw an advertisement for the walking club
in October 1999.
Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, in addition to the YMCA
of South Hampton Roads, Reebok and MacArthur Center, are
walking club sponsors.
Linn, who is one of three walking club coaches, has a minor
setback when he underwent total knee replacement surgery
at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in January 2003. After
hospitalization and eight weeks of rehabilitation, Linn
was back in his walking shoes by March and resumed coaching
duties by April. Linn's doctors attributed his speedy and
thorough recovery to his physical condition, which benefited
from the walking club and daily workouts and swimming at
the YMCA.
Bon Secours' partnership with MacArthur Center, the YMCA
of South Hampton Roads and Reebok provides us with the opportunity
for one-on-one interaction with the community while providing
important information about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle
and exercise.
Bon Secours also sponsors mall walking programs at Patrick
Henry Mall in Newport News and Chesapeake Square in Chesapeake.
