Cytology
The Bon Secours Anatomical Pathology Laboratory is certified by the College of American Pathologists. We additionally hold certification from CLIA, and serve as a clinical training site for the Old Dominion University College of Health Sciences. Our staff consists of seven pathologists (two with board certification in cytopathology) and seven full-time ASCP-registered cytotechnologists.
Our computer information system is CoPath, a system dedicated to anatomical pathology and cytology. This technology enables us to perform in a very efficient manner, with extensive built-in QC activities and reports. Our reports are easy to read and are returned to the physician's office via fax or courier service within 72 hours after receipt of specimen. We offer personal one-on-one assistance to our clients.
Our quality assurance program includes the following:
- Rescreening of 10% of all normal PAP tests
- Rescreening of all high risk patients (patients with abnormal history)
- Retrospective diagnosis reviews
- Regular Continuing Education Programs and Seminars
- Quarterly HSIL and positive patients without follow-up letters
- Extensive cytology/histology correlations
- Monthly summary reports on all abnormal PAP tests (upon requests)
We perform HPV High Risk HC2 molecular testing and CT/NG PCR amplified molecular testing in house, using FDA-approved methodologies, directly off the Thin Prep Pap Test specimen vial. Any specialized pathology testing requested will be ordered for you. Consultation with a pathologist is available anytime.
Our reputation is one of high quality and excellent turn-around-time. Our goal is to give our physicians the best service, and their patients the best care available.
