The Mary Immaculate Birthplace Specialty Care Nursery
At The Birthplace, we know you want the very best care for your newborn. That's why we have a Specialty Care Nursery for babies born with special needs. As a specialty level service The Mary Immaculate Specialty Care Nursery has the capability to care for newborns who require special medical services, including:
- Stable-growing low birth weight neonates
- High risk neonates with neonatal illnesses
- Newborns requiring the insertion and maintenance of chest tubes for drainage
- Newborns who need additional respiratory treatments
The Mary Immaculate Birthplace is designed with the patient and family member's total comfort in mind. Our neonatal nurses and neonatalogists deliver expert specialized care and so does our technology. Two significant automated features we offer include:
- The H.U.G.S. Infant Abduction Protection System
In this system every infant wears a small Hugs tag on their ankle that is automatically enrolled in the system the moment it is attached. Our facility has a designated "safe area" where the babies are monitored. All exits from the safe area are protected by door monitors, and a network of receivers picks up messages from the tags. With this system, protection can start right in the delivery room. - BonSecoursNICU.net
Through the use of computer imaging, a mother who is recovering herself or cannot physically be with her infant can see her baby anytime of the day or night from her hospital bed or her home. Bon Secours uses a dedicated, secure URL to connect parents to a tiny video camera at the baby's bedside 24 hours a day. The baby can only be seen by viewers with a password.
Carol Delfaus, MD, takes you behind the scenes at Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital to talk about the Specialty Care Nursery and the specialized care babies need.
