The Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View in Suffolk received the highest recognition for patient satisfaction – the coveted Top Performer Award, which is given only to those facilities scoring in the 100th percentile. Bon Secours Harbour View received the award for its outpatient laboratory, for the second consecutive year.

Bon Secours Harbour View also received three five-star awards for overall quality of care – for the laboratory; for outpatient surgery; and for the emergency department, which opened in March 2007.

Also receiving five-star awards for overall quality of care were Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk for its acute inpatient rehabilitation center, and Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News for outpatient cardiology. 

The five-star customer service designation is limited to only those nursing units of hospitals or health facilities that achieved a score in the top ten percent of the nation, based on the percent of patients who rated their nursing unit as “Excellent” for Overall Quality of Care in 2007.

Bon Secours Harbour View and Mary Immaculate also received four-star awards for outpatient overall quality of care. 

The four-star designation is limited to those hospitals that achieved a score in the top 25
percent of the nation, again based on the percent of patients who rated their care as “Excellent” for Overall Quality of Care in 2007. 

Bon Secours Hampton Roads was also recognized with five-star and four-star awards related to medical staff perception surveys.  Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center and Mary Immaculate Hospital achieved five-star status for the facility’s pathology department.  In addition Mary Immaculate Hospital’s hospitalist program also received a five-star designation.

The five-star medical staff perception awards are given annually to healthcare facilities that achieved a score in the top ten percent of the nation, based on the percent of physicians who rated the service as “Excellent” for any of the 13 questions listed in the survey.   

Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center’s laboratory department received a four-star designation, which indicates that the department scored between the 75th and 89.9th percentile in the facilities most recent medical staff perception survey.
