Bon Secours Hospice offers various services and programs to patients and their families. We are able to care for patients who reside in areas throughout Hampton Roads, including Chesapeake, Hampton, James City County, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Smithfield, Suffolk, Williamsburg, York County, and parts of Gloucester and Isle of Wight County.
Services and programs offered by Bon Secours Hospice include:
- Hospice Care Team
The hospice care team consists of a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals who are specially trained to care for patients at the end of life. A medical director, who is certified in palliative care and hospice, serves as the leader. Other team members include attending physicians, certified hospice nurses, social workers, chaplains, bereavement counselors, certified nursing assistances, and volunteers. -
Medications
Bon Secours provides medications to patients. Medications that address symptoms of life-limiting illnesses are provided at no cost. -
Durable Medical Equipment and Supplies
Bon Secours helps patients get durable medical equipment as well as self-help and personal comfort items required for their care. Medical supplies include items mentioned in the patient’s written care plan. Durable equipment includes items, like a bed, a walker and an oxygen system. -
Bereavement Services
Trained hospice staff and volunteers counsel family members during their bereavement. This is free and is available for a year after the death of a loved one. Personal counseling, support groups and classes are available. - Interpreter Services
Bon Secours provides assistance to our multicultural patients who are not able to easily understand English-speaking Hospice staff. With assistance from AT&T, a three-way telephone can be utilized to allow the patient and Hospice staff to speak directly with an interpreter. -
Help for the Deaf
Bon Secours provides a telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD). This is electronic equipment provides text communication via a telephone line. - CaringBridge.org Pages
CaringBridge.org is a free web service that allows individuals experiencing a significant health challenge to create free, personal and private websites. These websites enable patients to connect with family and friends, making each health journey easier. -
Dietary Counseling
Registered dieticians can provide counseling and training to caregivers. -
Speakers and Education
Speakers are provided for community groups to learn more about Bon Secours Hospice as well as other Bon Secours programs and services.
