About Columbia University

Columbia University's heart program at The New York Presbyterian Hospital is rated 7th in the nation by US News and World Report. Doctors at Columbia have participated in a number of notable "firsts" in cardiac care:

• Established one of the first successful heart transplant programs in the nation
• Performed the first successful pediatric heart transplant
• Performed the first robotically assisted totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass (TECAB)
• Pioneered the development of left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) as bridges to transplantation; regarded as the world leader in implanting these devices
