Putting
Time On Your Side
Diagnosing thoracic tumors and lung cancer can be a complex
process. Traditionally a patient diagnosed with a suspicious
lung nodule may have to visit three or more specialists to
determine if they have cancer and can take anywhere from 4
weeks to 3 months. Faster diagnosis and treatment of these
tumors can significantly increase survival rates. This is
the primary reason that Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center
developed the Lung and Chest Program.
A Coordinated Approach To Care
Our Lung and Program is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary
approach to diagnosing, treating and managing all forms of
thoracic tumors. The cornerstone of our Lung and Chest Program
is a team of specialists that collaborate to improve the speed
and efficiency of patient care. A care coordinator is also
assigned to each patient. The care coordinator is a patient’s
primary contact and is responsible for scheduling appointments,
tests, procedures and making sure all the members of the team
are kept current on a patient’s condition.
Lung And Chest Program Support And Resources
The program is supported by the full, state-of-the-art resources
of Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center. They also include in-
and out-patient surgical services and care as well as non-surgical
interventions such as radiation therapy, brachytherapy, palliative
endoscopic therapy and multi-modality treatments for stage
III patient care. Support services are also available through
the Cancer Center and Image Recovery Center (both located
at DePaul Medical Center). Patients of the Lung and Chest
Program also have access to other services that can contribute
to their healing process, including registered dieticians,
counselors, support groups and pastoral care.
