MISSION STATEMENT:
The Bon Secours Maryview Foundation is dedicated to developing sources of funding for programs and services which further the health care ministry of the Sisters of Bon Secours, benefiting the residents of Portsmouth, and those areas of Chesapeake, Suffolk and Isle of Wight County, served by Bon Secours Maryview. The Foundation exists to provide an opportunity for individuals, families, organizations, and businesses to make investments in needed health care for themselves and their neighbors. HISTORY:
The Bon Secours Maryview Foundation is proud to be celebrating its Tenth Anniversary - Ten Years of Providing Good Help to the Community!
In 1945, Maryview Hospital opened its doors with 150 beds and 30 bassinets. Built with government funds to ease a critical shortage of hospital beds, the new community hospital was staffed by eight sisters from the order of the Daughters of Wisdom, eight nurses and some 40 Portsmouth doctors. In 1984, Maryview Medical Center became part of the Bon Secours Health System. The French words, "Bon Secours" capture the spirit of Maryview's approach to health care."good help to those in need." Our goal is to provide compassionate health care that contributes to the physical, social, emotional and spiritual well being of those we serve, while respecting the dignity of all persons.
After recognizing a need for a cancer treatment facility, the community came together and raised $1.5 million in a capital campaign and the Martha Davis Cancer Center was built. Based on the success of that campaign, and realizing a need to meet future continuum of care issues, the Maryview Foundation was established. The Foundation is charged with raising and managing funds from private and public sources for projects and programs that might not otherwise be provided. As part of its commitment to delivering physical emotional and spiritual care, the Bon Secours Maryview Foundation has supported projects such as:
